2880

There are 2,880 minutes in a weekend. For most, this is a time of rest and repose, a time to shop with friends, or enjoy a romantic walk with a loved one. But for 12 teams of filmmakers, sleep will not even be an option when they are challenged to write, shoot and edit a short film in only 48 hours. The teams’ films will be based on a secret theme that will only be revealed to them moments before the 2880 Film Blitz clock starts and the weekend’s minutes begin to tick away.

Two thousand eight hundred and eighty eight minutes (or 48 hours) later, the energy levels will be through the roof when our exhausted, but ecstatic filmmakers present their finished films to a sold-out theatre where an enthusiastic crowd of 500+ watch the results, cheer on the teams and help their favourite movies win big prizes.

Drama, comedy, animation, documentary, experimental… it doesn’t matter — as long as the secret theme is incorporated into the film. The 2880 Film Blitz is all about throwing one’s sensibilities to the wind for a weekend of adrenaline and excitement through filmmaking. Most importantly, this is a chance for filmmakers to do what they love most; to make a film and have it seen, while doing away with all the usual headaches that come along with trying to sell and finance a project.
