A unique encounter with Peter Wintonick whose career is spanning 35 years and got him involved in more than 100 films and transmedia projects.

Co-director with Mark Achbar of the famous Manufacturing Consent : Noam Chomsky and the Media, producer of Eyesteels current Sundance 2012 hit Yung Chang’s China Heavyweight, international editor for POV magazine, mentoring young filmmakers and advising many festivals around the world, including IDFA and programming Reykjavik IFF in Iceland, Peter Wintonick will share his thoughts with us about the state of documentary today, the death of public space, Docagora, Docmedia, Docutopia and and Documocracy….. But also about those really indie documentaries where hope lies…

Discover the films made by young directors and discuss with them! A selection of awarded documentaries and presentation of the Wapikoni mobile methods. Up to now, Wapikoni Mobile visited 19 first nation communities and introduced 2000 of its young members to cinema. It collected more than 50 prestigious awards from around the world.
With the participation of directors Réal Junior Leblanc and Kevin Bellefleur, of trainers Karine Van Amerigen and Louis Fontaine and Manon Barbeau, founder and chief executive of the Wapikoni Mobile.

All you need to know about distributing your own documentaries: pros and cons, use of social networks, dos and don’ts, real-life situations. Based on the example of the documentary Chercher le courant, by Nicolas Boisclair and Alexis de Gheldere. Come chat with Nathalie Perreault, distribution officer, and Denis McCready, producer, Productions du Rapide-Blanc.

Nathalie Perreault came to documentary after 15 years in publication and collective management in visual arts. Since her coordination at Productions du Rapide-Blanc, she develpopped an original expertise in self distribution with the films Visionnaires planétaires, L’Imposture and the successful Chercher le courant.

Denis McCready has more than 15 years of experience in cinema and television. Since a decade, he focussed on documentary and collaborated to many projects filed here or around the world. He produced Chercher le courant, BAS! Au-delà du Red Light et MTL PUNK : La première vague.

Is 3D the real next big thing in documentary ? Discover the technical and aesthetic dimensions of 3D docs and view numerous clips from films currently in production. With the participation of Marlene Millar and Philippe Szporer, directors and producers of Corps fugaces, hybrid dance documentary using animation. Moderator: Kat Baulu, NFB producer.

With a background in contemporary dance and design Montreal filmmaker Marlene Millar has been creating dance and art films over the last twenty years. In 2001 she founded the award winning arts film production company Mouvement Perpétuel with Philip Szporer, a major figure in the Canadian dance world for the past 30 years.

DOC Québec: Fall Internship Program

After the success of our summer session, and always keeping in mind the interest of bringing together different generations of local documentary film professionals, and facilitating exchanges of experience and fresh ideas within the community, DOC Québec is proud to go on with its  fall internship program, placing interns within local production companies.

This program will carefully match skilled interns with production companies, giving them the opportunity to participate in a different stage of documentary creation, whether development, production or post-production, while giving established filmmakers support with the wear and tear of daily tasks.
