Monique Simard at the NFB

Dear members,

This summer’ big news is something we can be proud of: the appointment of Monique Simard as Director General of the NFB French Program. She will be starting her new position on August 18, 2008.

A member of Documentary Organization of Canada – Québec branch (DOC QC), Monique Simard has been director general and producer at Productions Virage, one of the main independent documentary production houses in Quebec, since 1998. She produced many socially engaged films from established directors like Jean-Claude Labrecque, Marquise Lepage, German Gutierrez, Sophie Bissonnette and Magnus Isaacson, as well as those from a younger generation like Julie Perron, Luc Côté, Anita Aloiso and Annie Saint-Pierre.
“The NFB is currently at a turning point and I find this evolution very stimulating. I strongly believe in the social power of documentary, the extraordinary possibilities of animation and the creativity that new digital technologies generate. As a public producer, the NFB can take risks and, because of this, remain a unique place of engagement, creation and innovation,” stated Ms. Simard.

Doc-Québec is especially proud of this announcement and warmly wishes the best of success to Monique in her new post.
